NordicTrax label founder Luke McKeehan has been keepin' it real behind the decks since 1985, in the process becoming one of Canada 's most celebrated house DJs. As a veteran of Toronto's warehouse scene in the 1980's, Luke's contribution to Canada's ever-growing dance culture runs deep. He has hosted and played alongside Danny Tenaglia, Ben Watt, Mark Farina, Doc Martin, DJ Heather, Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Little Louie' Vega, as well as opened for St. Germain, Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada, Jamiroquai and David Bowie. Extensive touring has taken him to world reknown venues/parties such as Lazy Dog + Buzzin Fly (London), Gravity Music Festival (France), La Fabrique (Tokyo), Rebel Waltz (Scotland), Smart Bar (Chicago), The Room (Madrid), and many more. His innovative DJ sets and critically-acclaimed productions have earned him fans in every corner of the globe, and through Nordic Trax he has played a pivotal role in helping push Canadian dance music in new and exciting directions. A native of Bluefields, a small Caribbean port on Nicaragua’s legendary Miskito coast, Ramiro was exposed to multi-cultural music from an early age, including Afro-Caribbean soca, reggae, salsa, and other Latin rhythms. This experience was enhanced by his subsequent years growing up in New Orleans, where blues, jazz and funk permeated the region's rich music culture, and where Ramiro also discovered new wave, punk, and other non-mainstream music which emphasized creativity and community over commercialism. During his college years in San Francisco, Ramiro converged upon the electronic music phenomenon that was exploding. From the Wicked Full-Moons to The Gathering and Freedom parties, to Come-Unity, Zendada, Stompy, and the legendary Sunset outdoor and boat parties, Ramiro drew inspiration from being a part of the unfolding West Coast underground movement. With the support of friends, Ramiro began producing his own events in 1995, showcasing the talents of many local artists, musicians, and friends. And thus, in 1997, Uniting Souls was born. As founder, Ramiro worked actively to build community through the power of house music. Uniting Souls quickly gained a reputation for top-notch events with incredibly good vibes! Since making Seattle his new home in 2000, Ramiro has been "an inextinguishable accelerant of Seattle's house scene" (cover story - Seattle Weekly - Nightlife issue - 10/29/03), producing over 400 events, featuring top-tier local, national, and international talent - including Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Doc Martin, Little Louie Vega, Marques Wyatt, Johnny Fiasco, Kaskade, Miguel Migs & Lisa Shaw, Dubtribe Sound System, Inland Knights, and hundreds of others - laying the foundation for a strong, art-minded community. All the while, Ramiro has spearheaded the record label branch, Uniting Souls Music. In addition to wearing all these hats, Ramiro LOVES dj'ing, with 12 years experience behind the decks, and a penchant for deep, techno-influenced house – “jazz-like, dreamy patterns and percussive layers, looped around heavy bass lines threaded with an urgent physicality” (Seattle Weekly - Best of Seattle 2009 issue - 7/29/09). Ramiro gets lots of love from the community, playing a remarkable 100 shows per year on average. The LoveVirus is a much-loved mainstay of the Seattle EDM community and has been dosing dance floors with a healthy helping of house for over four years. Influenced by many genres and inspired by a genuine love of life, The LoveVirus is now producing his own tracks, saturating each beat with his signature positive energy. His experience as a DJ along with a true ear for fresh sounds has manifested a bright new producer whose tight tracks are infused with a keen knowledge of movement-making beats. The LoveVirus creates music that makes you more than dance- it makes you love. You have been infected. As a founding member of Seattle Burning Man Crew Booty Resin, The LoveVirus has led troupes of dance hungry fiends across deserts and forests in search of butt shaking beats up and down the West Coast. Booty Resin is well known locally for throwing community-based dance events in support of Seattle artists and the electronic music culture of the city- and having a hell of a time doing it. The LoveVirus has slammed such parties as Seattle’s Decibel Festival 07-08, Epidural, Fenix Fest, SIDW, Magnetic/Kinetic, Spy, Broken Disco, Gemini Party, XXX-mas, and Urban Revival (Portland Bus Party), touching many people’s hearts in the process with his love for the community he moves. This in-demand DJ has shared the stage with Innerflight, Shameless, Produkt, DJ Heather, and novaTRON and is also a resident of Uniting Souls. Presiding over the very popular monthly “Catch the LoveVirus†at Club Contour in downtown Seattle for over two years, the LoveVirus commands the dance floor with seamless mixing and on-point track selection, dropping sets of pounding house that are aggressively inspiring and guarantee you will walk off the dance floor with a smile on your face, ready to spread the epidemic of music euphoria.
This is no passing bug; this is the LoveVirus. His music is fatal to empty dance floors and stale sets everywhere, and there is no vaccine- only love.
Derrick’s Bay-Area roots reflect in his DJ sets as well as his production work, which seamlessly blend organic elements of deep, funky, jazzy, house with darker, more electronic, techy sounds – heavy (yet not oppressive) bass-lines, dreamy, abstract melodies, sophisticated loops and percussive layers, all tinged with a tribal, psychedelic edge. A resident of Seattle since 2004, and a Uniting Souls resident DJ since 2006, Deepvibez has kept busy in the studio, as well as on the stage, performing at 200+ shows, alongside the greats of house, including Mark Farina, Doc Martin, Miguel Migs, Johnny Fiasco, Justin Martin, Kaskade, Chuck Love, DJ Heather & Colette, to name a few. He has held residencies and performed at Seattle's top venues, including Neumos, Trinity, Chop Suey, Last Supper Club, Rebar, Heaven, Contour, and a 3-year residency at See Sound Lounge, as well as performing at some of the Pacific Northwest's most respected festivals and underground events, including Decibel and Photosynthesis. His current residencies include Late Night Mass, 3rd Fridays at the Transcendent Church of Bass, and Fam Funk, 1st Fridays at the Electric Tea Garden. Look for some forthcoming breakthrough releases from one of Seattle's hardest-working electronic musicians.
One late summer evening in the early 00's, Michito dropped a needle on an old dusty record to inaugurate a festive evening which he will never forget for the rest of his life, his very first DJ set. Originally being drawn to dance music by Brazilian funk and contemporary cross-over Jazz, he now finds himself fond of diversity, effectiveness and the possibilities in House and Techno music. Having been featured in some notable events in the last several years in the Pacific Northwest, he also now hosts his own residencies. A weekly at the Musiquarium, a lounge which operates concurrently with Seattle's world famous venue, the Triple Door. Titled "DUENDE", the night focuses on deep, organic and jazzy flavors from divergent genres, with an electronic and eccentric foundation. His latest endeavor "Beaux Chateaux" is his place of interpretation in modern club music, mature yet adventurous sounds which can be caught yet never captured. For the coming days, he plans to create his own compositions, cover more continents, and to find himself in situations that will encourage spontaneity. Since 1998 Drum & Bass Tuesdays has showcased the full range of music the genre has to offer. The night is run by Demo, original founder from 360BPM, Aksion and a team of up and coming DJ's/producers. The night has been steadily growing into being for the people, by the people. At 11 years, it is the longest consecutively running D&B weekly in the United States. 2010 is shaping up to be a new peak for the night's prosperity with the Annual D&B DJ Battles and Producer Competition and now a room at this year's Kinetic 4 at Pacific Science Center!!
Gay City Health Project is a multicultural gay men's health organization and the leading provider of HIV and STD testing in for gay & bisexual men in King County. The organization's mission is to promote gay and bisexual men's health and prevent HIV transmission by building community, fostering communication and nurturing self-esteem. In addition to the testing services, Gay City offers smoking cessation workshops, crystal meth prevention programs, and opportunities to explore health and community-building through the arts, educational workshops, and social events.
Each year Gay City produces BUMP, the Northwest's Hottest Halloween Party! The annual event draws nearly a thousand people for a night filled with freaks, frights, and fun! The Space Virgin Arts Collective started as a Seattle-based Burning Man theme camp in 1994, but we have since grown to include off-playa art projects and events. In keeping with the Burning Man philosophy "no observers, only participants", our art is often interactive and experiential, plunging participants into theatrical-style sets and engendering joyful, transformative experiences. We are an eclectic group with diverse talents, and we believe that artists and their friends develop strong, supportive relationships by working together on large scale projects, educating each other with their unique skills, and sharing resources.
