Desert Dwellers was originally formed by Amani Friend (Global Dragon) & Treavor Walton (aka Treavor Moontribe) in 1998, then under the name Amani vs. Teapot. Desert Dwellers was born several years later from this collaboration, which expanded to include Rara Avis in 2003.
Their earlier musical efforts range from shamanic downtempo to tribal-progressive dance music, but have evolved into genre defying, transcendental music fusion. Employing both ancient and modern techniques of composition and performance. Electronic elements blended seemlessly with live instrumentals, with a focus on music that stirs the soul, moves the body, and clears the mind. Their now trademark deep bass, earthy percussion, etheric voices and culture-crossing instrumentation meet insistent rhythms in this invigorating psy-chill soundscape. Like sonic incense, this spellbinding hybrid of studio and field recordings burns with a boldly modern sound reverberating with echoes of our tribal past—and future.
Desert Dwellers on stage consists of Rara, Treavor, and Amani using a combination of laptop computers, and instruments ranging from guitars, vocals, didgeridoo's, percussion elements, synths and keys... we are able to accommodate guest musicians, but can ultimately rock a show, big or small, do yoga related events, play clubs, festivals -- in a versatile, flexible, and efficient way.
They currently have releases out with White Swan Records, Native Sate Records, and Ritual Sounds ... with more coming through Six Degrees Records, and related projects through Sounds True Music. http://www.desertdwellers.org/
