Damion started DJ’ing psytrance in 1997 after blowing his student grant on a set of decks. Moving to Australia in late 2005, he’s the Melbourne-based PsyBooty representative fusing funky, dirty psychedelic house music fused with fluid progressive psytrance.
Damion has been resident at
Eufluoria and
Samadhi parties in the UK, and has guested at
Rotation in Southampton,
Brainchild in Winchester,
Planet Shroom, Hoi Pol Loi, Bad By Design and
PsyProject in Bristol, and
Interface Radio, Omniscience, and
Symbiosis in London. In Australia, he has played in
Melbourne and
Byron Bay, and played in
Tokyo in early 2005.
He played at the
Sonica 2005 festival in Italy this summer, and the lineup of gigs for Australia includes stints in Sydney and NNSW, and in Melbourne will be at
Tribeadelic as well as parties for Green Ant who run the massive
Rainbow Serpent festival.
He’s shared the decks with
Andrew Humphries (Organic Records), OOOD, Mick Chaos, Pop Stream, Barclay (Dark Angel) and
OTT in the UK, and
Mr Peculiar, LegoHead, Andrew Till, Ozzy (Tribeadelic), Rich Mantrix, and
Dale (Green Ant) in Australia.
As well as his DJ work, Damion runs the hugely successful
Psyreviews weekly trance reviews email service and has written about Psychedelic Trance for
Dream Creation (UK),
Spaced (UK),
DJ Times (USA) and
DMA (USA) magazines, and was trance editor for
Worldpop Dance, twice winner of the UK Dancestar Awards for best dance music site.
As a spin-off from the weekly
Psyreviews mailing list (going out to 3,000 trance people each week), the
Psyreviews Radio Show airs now and again via the Psy-Forum.co.uk radio
Psystream.
Damion’s side project
Synth Bastard has seen comedy re-edits and remixes of psytrance tunes getting around over the last year. Having messed about with several tracks, his tunes have been doing the rounds in the UK and have been played in London by DJs such as
Lurk (BooM! Records NL),
Wicki (Organic, PharPsyde),
Red Five (Last Possible Solution, Chaos Unlimited) and
Aurora (Psyforce SWE).
